Report: Mike Brown agrees to terms on deal with Chiefs

| 30 Comments | No TrackBacks

Mike Brown has found a new home.

The veteran safety has agreed to terms on a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to the Kansas City Star.

Brown made a free-agent visit to the Chiefs at the beginning of the month when it looked like a deal would fall into place quickly before the team's minicamp. That didn't happen and he wound up making a trip to see Cleveland also.

The signing reunites Brown with new Kansas City head coach Todd Haley, who was the wide receivers coach for the Bears from 2001 to 2003, during the beginning of Brown's career.

It's expected that Brown could win a starting job in training camp. He will challenge Bernard Pollard and Jarrad Page for a spot in the starting lineup.

Glad to see he will get a chance. Hopefully he can stay healthy and compete for a job. For a young defense in the midst of a conversion to a 3-4, having a coach in the defensive backfield is a nice luxury to have.

There was no way the Bears could have legitimately counted on him this season, and had to let him go. Considering the number of Bears former assistants around the league, one of them was bound to give him a shot. Haley knows what he is getting as far as a person and a student of the game, but the legs are the question...

Pollard and Page are a solid young tandem, so he has his work cut out for him. Maybe they will see him as the 3rd safety in run-heavy packages. He can still play at the line and deliver a solid hit, just can't cover a lot of ground any more.

Bears will be sorry they let Mike go. He's going to have an awesome season.

Good for MB. Good for the Chiefs. I'm just glad he's in the AFC and that he won't play against the Bears. How awful would it have been if he signed with another team in the NFC North!

I'd be really surprised if he doesn't start game 1 and even make the pro-bowl if he stays healthy.

Good luck Mike!

Mike Brown good luck and please come back to the Bears in a coaching capacity at some point down the road.

Mike has been the best Free safety and strong safey since Fencik and Plank. He seemed to have the smarts and speed of Fencik and he hit like a train similar to Plank.

All the best to Mike Brown and lets hope that the Bears will find someone with the skill set and desire to be able to be even a shadow of what Brown brought to the table on a daily basis when healthy with the Bears.

Graham could be special and Steltz surprise. I only worry about Steltz's speed, he can hit and seems bright. There have been some pretty good FS that weren't that fast but were game smart and could carry a lick and played with an eye for the turnover.

Go Bears!!

You were my favorite Bear and I am so sorry you won't get to play for us this year. Good luck. The Chiefs are lucky to get you.

I'm happy to see Mike Brown found another spot in the NFL, but I still feel it was time to part way's. Mike Brown simply had to many durability problems. The guy probably would have went down as one of the better safeties in Bear lore had he been able to simply stay healthy. Brown had some pretty amazing games as a Bear, who can forget the double hitter he gave us back in 2001 vs the 49ers then Browns, still two of the greatest comebacks I've ever seen in an NFL game this side of the Bills vs Oilers. And maybe if Mike Brown had been healthy for the Bears Super Bowl bout vs the Colts....who knows what could of been? But, sadly the end has come, I wish Brown the best but I think its time to move on. I think Kevin Payne is gonna surprise some people from his strong safety spot this year. Can't wait till the season opener, good luck Mike Brown and as always GO BEARS!!

He can wear another uniform but he'll be a Bear for life. I wish him nothing but the best. A player all young football players should look up to.

I'm not much into the name dropping thing, and I've only met a handful of pro athletes in my life, but I got to meet Mike Brown at one of the establishments in Platteville prior to the start of his rookie year. I found him to be humble and a class act.

I wish him well.

Good Luck to Mike Brown! One of the all-time Bear greats! Good luck in KC, I will be watching. I reiterate Mateo's statements, thank goodness MB is not in the NFC North, I would hate to see him in purple or green. Go Bears, Go Steltz Go Payne!

Mike Brown, you will be missed. Chiefs are lucky to have you, best of luck.

Mike you will always be a Chicago Bear no matter what. I believe that if the injuries would not have mounted up he would have been considered one of the greatest safeties of all time! Thank you for everything you've done Mike!! I will continue to watch your career and I'm crossing my fingers for a Pro Bowl for you this season!!

This is unfortunately the business side of the NFL that none of us like as fans. Hopefully, Mike can rejuvenate his career and end on a good note. I've never seen or heard anything about him as anything but class. He's a warrior on the field as well as a coach and someone kids can look up to. I wish him nothing but the best and I too will be checking in on him in KC this season. Would love to see him regain his prominence but even if he does not, I think the guy has a future in coaching and player development.

Back-to-back OVERTIME interceptions returned for touchdowns. I still smile remembering those T.O. ALLIGATOR arms! Good Luck Mike!

I'm so happy that b**** is gone! Finalyy Angelo did sometthing right. Yea i now he was a great player years before but hes been nothing but dead weight these last few years and every time he got injured it set the the entire team back. Payne will be ok but STeltz will be the back up to graham. You heard it here first.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
(Cause I am the only real bear fan)
to never have Ditka shine on your face.
You were content to let me rove deep, that's your way.
You always ran a step behind.
(You where always a little slow for a safety)

So I was the one with all the glory,
(I was a fan in 85, they won it all unlike your team)
while you were the one with all the strength.
(You worked out a lot)
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
(I always call players by their number, #30)
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.
(You got hurt a lot)

Did you ever know that you're my Safety,
and everything a Strong Safety should be?
I can fly higher than a Bear with Wings,
'cause you are the Safety playing deep.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my playbook.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
The seconday will be nothing without you.

Did you ever know that you're my Safety?
You're everything a Safety should be.
I could fly higher than a bear with wings,
'cause you are the Bear beneath my wings.

Did I ever tell you you're my Safety?
You're everything, everything a safety could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than a Bear with wings,
'cause you are the Bear beneath my wings,
'cause you are the Bear beneath my wings,

Oh, the Bear beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the Bear beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly away. You let me fly so high.
Oh, you, you, you, the Bear beneath my wings.
Oh, you, you, you, the Bear beneath my wings.

Fly, fly, fly high against the sky,
so high I almost touch Ditka.
Thank you, thank you,
thank God for you, the Bear beneath my wings.

Did we really hear it here first? Wow and I can say I was their when you plucked the apple off the idea tree and laid out your brainstorm before us. You really have enlightened us all.

Thank you, thank you, thank god for you.

As the unofficial second in command of the Blog, I ban you from posting here ever again and you will never refer to Mike Brown as a female dog ever again. Or you will face the power of Brando Schrute.

I just heard that Mike Brown injured his calf again signing that offer sheet!! What a waste!! He had a couple good games and everybody thinks he should be in the HOF!! OVERRATED!!! He'll be on IR by week four!!

GOOD LUCK MIKE.....Wish u the best u gave us all awesome plays to talk about for years...

You all have no life. Especially Schrute. Bear fans are not typing any of these words. Must be Cub or Sox fans.

Hey Tripper, go shag a belt sander, go get a haircut with a chainsaw, go fall on a porcupine, go take a moonlight piss on a grizzly bear, go tell Mike Brown that he's overrated to his face, you chickentrot, squidsucking fecalfaced son of a finch.

OTOH, you're probably right about the week four IR thing.

Mike Brown was the best Bear since Walter Payton, period. I too will never forget the back-to-back overtime miracles in which he scored the two winning TDs. I live in San Francisco, hate the Whiners, and yelled so loud when he INT'd the pass for a walkoff TD that you must have heard me in Chicago. Those were two of the greatest Bear victories I ever witnessed, I wish I could have been at the games.

Unfortunately, Brown's legs just can't take the game anymore. He should have retired a year or two ago and gone into coaching, which I still hope he does. I also hope he doesn't play so long that he ends up in a wheelchair or on crutches by the time he's 45.

Good luck Mike, I wish you success whatever you do and I'm sure you'll achieve it. long to taht b**** mike brown? of course! he was a looser! wehn i play madden on rookie mode my safties NEVER got injured as much as hes a looser. just like all of you loosers are loosers....ans speaking of loosers...

wehn i think of all teh weight ive put on because of that brando....i used to be a dress size 6...but now i am size 92! i cant stop eating! i eat becuase im unhappy...ans im unhappy becaue i eat....its a vicious cycle...ans yes i realy am a fat bastard.

ohhh TAHT BRANDO! taht cheery happy go lucky BRANDO!!

but you guys now me...

ps "I Creighton am the gayest of all posters."

So long Mike Brown! I'll miss you pumpkin!

Now there was a guy with class. I'll be honest in saying that I wouldn't know class if it hit me in the face, since I have absolutely no dignity or manners whatsoever, but I hear it's a nice quality to have. Furthermore I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to my first wife. I'm sorry, I was an idiot. I know. I do that a lot. I can't help it. My IQ is low and my body odor is high. But I do have some good qualities. I really do-

//AMB = Adios Mike Brown! I am so clever!
//I wonder how many different microwave dinners there are in the world.
//Oh God! I'm so, so lonely! Please forgive me, honey!

I say booo we needed Mike back in a Bears uniform next year we are still scrambling to figure out who is gonna replace him

There are many memories of Mike Brown as a Bear, almost all of them good ones. I am glad he got signed somewhere and wish it had been as a return to the Bears. He never complained, he played harder than anyone else out there, and was a professional on and off the field. I'm sure the Bears will miss his quiet leadership. Good luck, Mike.

Mike Brown was an awful player who got hurt all the time, never made one pro bowl.

At this point, however, it appears the Bears are not a serious contender for Burress. In the video below, ESPN's John Clayton reports that Chicago has all but ruled out the possibility of singing him. Part of that stance could be based on NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's decision to review Burress for possible league discipline long before his legal troubles are scheduled to be addressed in court.

Player acquisitions are always subject to new twists. But for now, at least, it looks like Burress and the Bears are not a match: Source

Pro Football weekly:

New Bears QB Jay Cutler has gone out of his way to sing the praises of former teammate Brandon Marshall, who wants out of Denver. But team sources believe that, even if the Bears seriously considered a deal for the Pro Bowl receiver, it would appear that they just don’t have enough ammo at present to realistically pull it off.

• We keep hearing that Bears fifth-round draft pick Johnny Knox, who has displayed great hands to go with his world-class speed so far this offseason, could end up making more of an immediate impact than third-round pick Juaquin Iglesias, who hasn’t been too shabby himself.

of course we all wish Mike Brown to stay healthy but if he does, makes Da look silly. We could use healthy Brown but not an unhealthy team leader on the bench
