Bears will remain alive in playoff race entering Monday night

| 20 Comments | No TrackBacks

The Bears will be playing for their playoff life Monday night.

Baltimore's 33-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys tonight in the final game ever at Texas Stadium ensures that the Bears will at least remain alive in the wild card race.

A victory by Atlanta on Sunday at Minnesota will keep the Bears alive in the NFC North race. That is the key game of the day for the Bears.

The Bears could have been eliminated from postseason contention altogether if Dallas had won tonight and Minnesota, Tampa Bay and Philadelphia all win Sunday.

The path to the wild card remains treacherous, at best. The best hope for the Bears to reach the playoffs is to win out and for Minnesota to lose to Atlanta and the New York Giants. Currently, the Bears are fifth in the wild-card standings trailing, in order, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Dallas.

The Falcons-Vikings game will be shown locally on Fox-32 at 3 p.m.

Stranger things have happened, but, it's not out of the imagination to believe the Vikings could lose their last two games, especially against an Atlanta team that has been 'flying under the radar' and seem to be playoff bound after the Michael Vick fiasco. Plus, the NYGiants who are playing for home field advantage

Also, the 'unpderperforming' Cowboys could lose their last game, and Philly has imploded before.

My worry is the Bears may not want it (playoffs) enough to play a full game in all three phases. And, if the Bears can't stop the run against he Packers, things will get ugly fast. Field position and time of possession will be HUGE!

My prediction: Bears 23 Packers 20

Nice. At least one of the 4 games went the Bear's way so far.

ROFL at the Dallas defense late in the 4th. I watched the whole game. Hilarious look on Wade Phillip's face.

San Diego @ Tampa Bay at noon.
- San Diego has the talent to beat Tampa badly. But that is only if they decide to play. I hope they do.

Philly @ Washington at 3:15
- Just put it this way, this is the key game that has to go the Bear's way. Philly needs to lose this week, and then beat Dallas. The reason being they need to finish behind Chicago first with the loss, but then keep Dallas from improving their conference record next week. That would put Dallas ahead of the Bears in the tie breaker in the event they win.

Atlanta @ Minnesota at 3:15
- This game determines which games count for Chicago next week. Obviously routing for the Falcons. I think they have a chance with Fat Williams out, and Michael Turner at RB.

Go Bears!!!

I'm so confused. Oh boy here we go.

You are WRONG Brad. Stop reading these bums from the Bears message boards 24/7 and using it for your interpretation of playoff scenarios!

If TB wins they get 1 wildcard spot
If MIN wins they get the division
If PHILLY wins they play DALLAS week 17 and the winner of that game will take the 2nd wildcard spot

C'mon this is embarrasing man.

Excellent analysis of the playoff situation by Ryan. I am a huge Bears fan but I have Romo, T.O. and the Dallas D on my fantasy team. I can't believe what I saw last night. I'm toast.

I hate when it comes down to others controlling the Bear's destiny! We realize when the season gets in the later stages how important the first few games really are.

If you get a chance, go vote for Forte on this survey for rookie of the year on this SportsClimax .com site.

Its a close race but he's neck and neck with Matt Ryan and Flacco. Win Monday!!!

What happens if Phily, Atlanta and Tampa all lose today?

Then we would have a 4 team tie at 9-6 going into week 17 (CHI, DAL, ATL, TAM.)

In that scenerio, assuming all win in week 17, which 2 teams would go from a 4 team tie at 10-6?

Bahahahahahahaha - Shawn just got Be-otch slapped by Brad... LOL....

I know this is crazy talk, but just think, the Bears could be the New York Giants of last year. All they need is momentum throughout the rest of this season, and yes, hope for no one to get hurt.

Does nobody have an answer for this???

Come on people, step up.

Shawn, you call all us bloggers bums for giving our playoff scenarios, then in the same breath, you give one??????? So not only are YOU a bum, your also a hypocrite??!! Hmm... a hypocritical bum, not something I would want to be labeled as. But Shawn, you just proved, in your own actions, you are what you are ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

The Vikes just lost so did the eagles, now we have to step up and win out, b/c we just might (gulp) have a shot?

OK... so for the Bears to remain in the playoff hunt, they need or could get help from:
1. Baltimore beats Dallas
2. SD beats TB
3. Atlanta beats Minnesota
4. Washington beats Philly

OMG. All 4 happened.

SO now the Bears have a lot to play for tomorrow.
1. Playoffs
2. Revenge
3. Biggest Rival
4. At home

But now the Packers can get some redemption on their bad season by knocking Chicago out of the hunt.

Keep winning Bears. Maybe 10 wins will get you in.

GO BEARS!!!

Cool, everything went right this weekend for the Bears, everyone that was suppose to lose, lost, Dallas, Tampa Bay, Philly, and most importantly, the mighty Vikings!! Now the Bears need to take care of business on monday night football tomorrow vs the Packers, I think they can do it. Kyle Orton's ankle is a little better than the last time the Bears and Pack ment, and Anthony Adams has really made an impact for the Bears on defense, so GO BEARS!!

OK, here's the playoff scenarios
New York Giants, Carolina, Atlanta, and Arizona are all in. The only spots left are the NFC North champion and last wild card spot.

Scenario 1 - Bears get #3 Seed (NFC North Champs)
Bears win at home v. Green Bay
Bears win at Houston
Minnesota loses v. New York Giants
They win NFC North with a 10-6 record. They would be the #3 seed and host a playoff game against the #6 wild card team.

Scenario 2 - Bears get #6 Seed (Wild Card)
Bears win at home v. Green Bay and at Houston
Philadelphia beats Dallas
Tampa loses to Oakland.
They win the last wild card slot with a 10-6 record. They would be the #6 seed and would play at Minnesota in the wild card playoff.

This is incredible! All 4 favorites lose, and our wild card hopes get a HUGE shot in the arm! And we're still in the thick of the division race. Now let's hope the Panthers continue to keep the Jints down, who will in turn take out their frustration against the Queens! We'll get revenge against the fudgepackers tomorrow night, guys. They don't like Bear weather, and Orton's ankle is much better than it was when we last faced the fudgepackers. So I expect a Bears victory, to keep pressure on the Queens. BEAR DOWN!

There is no point in making it complicated. The playoffs already started because the Bears are one and done from now on. The only question is if that will continue into the real playoffs.

That said, I'm rooting for Carolina tonight. Regardless of the results tonight, next week is essentially a meaningless game for the Giants. However, I think Coughlin would really hate to go into the playoffs with a 3 or more game losing streak. If they lose tonight, it seems likely that they will load up for the Vikings.

So much for the Panthers actually doing the right thing...
