Countdown to kickoff ... a few notes

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

Couple pregame notes about three hours from the start.

The Tigers wound up shutting out the Warriors in peewee action.

*** Keep an eye on rookie center Jamey Richard, who will start in place of Jeff Saturday tonight for the Colts. He's from the University of Buffalo. If the Bears cannot exploit Indy's inexperience from guard-to-guard it will be a long night.

*** No team has been better in September in recent years than the Colts. They are 24-9 in the month since 1998, the best record in the league, and their last loss in September came in the 2004 season opener at New England. The Colts have opened the last three seasons with impressive winning streaks--7-0 (2007), 9-0 (2006) and 13-0 (2005). All told, they have won 12 straight in September.

*** We'll check in with inactives when they are available, typically about 90 minutes or so before kickoff.

*** The Bears enter with 49 victories on opening day, the most in league history. The Bears' .590 winning percentage in openers is fourth-best in the league, training Jacksonville (.692), Dallas (.681) and Denver (.638).

*** Any question now on whether or not Brett Favre has any value left?

Brad,

Can you tell us what the Bears record is on opening day for the last 20 years?
