Okwo joins Bazuin as first-day pick to hit the road

Linebacker Mike Okwo became the second first-day draft pick to be informed he will be waived on Saturday.

The Bears delivered the news to defensive end Dan Bazuin on Friday, and agent Jeff Sperbeck just reported that Okwo has been told he will also be placed on waivers.

Bazuin was the 62nd overall pick in 2007 and Okwo followed not far behind in the third round at No. 94. Neither one appeared in a regular-season game for the Bears as Bazuin missed his rookie season with a left knee injury that is still hampering him and Okwo sat out last year on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. A groin muscle pull in training camp sidelined Okwo and kept him out of the first preseason game, and he didn't show enough on special teams to warrant a job.

While two high picks from the class of 2007 depart, nine of general manager Jerry Angelo's 12 draft picks from this April are on the 53-man roster.

A rundown of the final cuts: Bazuin, Okwo, Leonard Peters, Lousaka Polite, Mike Hass, Ryan Poles, Cody Balogh, Tyler Reed, P.J. Pope, Thomas Gafford, Nick Osborn, Zac Atterberry, Joey LaRocque, Brandon Rideau, Fontel Mines, Anthony Oakley, Ervin Baldwin, Joe Clermond, Trey Brown and Marcus Stone.

Thanks for following along for two days. We'll try to recap some of the news a little later on and monitor any league action that could be significant.
