The Bears reached the 75-man roster limit they had to get to by 3 p.m. Tuesday. They placed seventh-round pick Marcus Monk, safety Josh Gattis, wide receiver Ryan Grice-Mullen and cornerback Leslie Majors on waivers. The Bears roster was already at 79 after linebacker Rod Wilson was waived.
Monk is the first of 12 draft picks to depart. He was the fifth to final selection of the draft. The 6-4, 212-pounder from Arkansas struggled getting off press coverage and wasn't strong enough. He was used seldom in the preseason.
Gattis appeared in four games last seaason after being signed to the active roster on Oct. 2. He made four special teams tackles. Originally, he a was a fifth-round pick of Jacksonville.
Grice-Mullen, signed during training camp, and Majors, a Thornwood product, did not play last week against San Francisco.
The next cut will come following Thursday's game at Cleveland. The deadline to cut down to 53 is Saturday.
*** Tight end Desmond Clark (right knee), guard Terrence Metcalf (right knee), fullback Jason McKie (right knee) and long snapper Pat Mannelly (stinger) were sidelined at the start of practice.

Was Rod Wilson waived or placed on IR?
He was waived in order to be placed on IR.
I THINK THE GIANTS DID A BAD THING IN PLACING MARCUS MONK ON THE PRACTICE SQUAD. HE SHOULD BE ON THE 53 MAN ROSTER.I REALIZE ME BEING FROM ARKANSAS MAKES ME A LITTLE BIAS BUT, I JUST DON'T THINK they ALLOWED HIM A CHANCE
