Bears release two local players

| 3 Comments | No TrackBacks

The Bears released two local players Wednesday, getting rid of defensive tackle Babatunde Oshinowo and guard Mike Jones.

Oshinowo, the Neuqua Valley graduate, was signed to the practice squad early last season and was promoted to the 53-man roster for the final three games of 2007. He appeared in one game.

Jones, the Iowa product from Richards, was on the practice squad for the final seven weeks of last season. The Bears have a host of candidates to be developmental guards, including seventh-round picks Chester Adams and Kirk Barton.

Oshinowo was not regarded as highly as Matt Toeaina, a late-season pickup from Cincinnati, and the team drafted Marcus Harrison from Arkansas in the third round.

Mike Jones! Who? Mike Jones! Who? Mike Jones! No seriously who???

Oh, Babatunde, we hardly knew ye.

I have to shake my head at Cincinnati, the Bungles are struggling on defense and they let a player like Toeaina slip through the cracks. I think with time Toeaina can be special, I was impressed with his play late last season. Toeaina seemed disruptive and around the ball a lot. I also can't wait to check out 3rd round pick Marcus Harrison, he should add nice size to the Bears front four at 6-3 310lbs. A big disruptive nose tackle is just what the Bears were lacking last season. Harrison along with Dusty should help the bears run defense big time.

As far as Mike Jones, I liked him comeing out of Iowa in 07. Jones was an experienced big ten guard, so you know he could run block. Jones also had nice size at 6-4 300lbs. I guess he did not fit in the Bears plans. Im pretty excited about big Chester Adams, he could be the road grader the Bears have been lacking. I would also like to see what Tyler Reed has to offer, guess we'll find out this summer GO BEARS!!
