Rate the chances of the Bears' first round pick by position. I'd think its something like 35% OT, 30% RB, 20% DT, 15% other.

Are the Bears going to make any post-draft cuts, such as Ricky Manning Jr, to trim a little more cap room for the extensions that are being explored for Tommie Harris, Devin Hester, and Brian Urlacher, among others?

Also, what is their current cap status? I saw on an article on another site that they are roughly $16 million below the cap.

when do we know if we get to keep rashied davis?

As I understand the quarterback situation, Orton and Grossman will be working very similar base salaries for the 2008 season. With this in mind, I cannot imagine the Bears would draft a quarterback that would make more in base salary than their experienced quarterbacks in competition for the starting job. Which of the Bears' picks in this year's draft would fall below this salary threshold for a qb, and when do you believe the Bears will draft a qb to develop?

By the time the offense has finished its 1-2 year rebuilding process and is competent, Ogunleye and Urlacher will both be over 30. Trading these two for draft picks could allow the O and D to peak at the same time. Would the Bears be in better position to win in the long run if they traded these two dominant players?

Will adding an Offensive Tackle from the draft such as Otah or Williams really help the offensive line? What are the chances of the OL returning to being like the 2005 line? Thanks

Brad I'd like your comment on which historical draft we will compare to this year's. It's starting to look to me like '06 when the whole world expected the Bears to take a tight-end. Then the whole league spent the whole draft taking tight-ends right in front of the Bears. We just waited a year and Olsen dropped in our laps. This year it would be tackles instead of TEs.

Or it could be like '04 when everybody knew the Bears wanted a DT. Harris and Wilfork were both supposed to be top ten guys. Freefall to the Bears and Pats at 14 & 21. Both all-pro.

I just hope it's not like '05. I hope we just get a good guy, regardless of position. (maybe I should say "on offense", but what if Dorsey or Ellis free-fall?)

Is Halas Hall or tourable?

Will we see more of Greg Olson this year? I think its crazy to draft someone with his talent and dont use them. Also will G. Wolfe get more playing time? I think he's a good back and size does not make a difference. There has been a few backs in the NFL that were undersized but got the job done, W. Dunn for one. If you mix his height and style up in a game he could do some damage, especially if he hits the outside or open field.

Are the Bears going after a REAL QUARTERBACK?

I know we just signed the Glassman to another but is their ANY chance at all for us getting an actual GOOD QB?

Why have we passed up on getting some of the availble pro QB's?

Why are we sticking with Rex? Why are we still talking about him like he's a Rookie?

Isn't he 28???

He's a Grown Man, not a Young Prospect!
He has had way more chances then Anyone on our team.

He's SCARED and have No Pocket Awareness. He only recently Learned how to Throw in motion, when he gets chased out of the pocket.

Teams are purposefully taking penalties to get one Good Clean Hard Hit on him to shake him up the rest of the game.

The Bears F.O. needs to stop worring about making who THEY want to be the face of the team and just get a REAL TALENTED QUARTERBACK!

Hester is the ONLY reason why I would consider watching this season. They better pay that man TOP DOLLAR!

Last training camp, all I read about the Bear's offense was how good it looked. That in the daily battles with the defense, it usually won. The reports also spoke about how awesome Devin Hester looked as a wide receiver and how excited the Bears were to use him. Then when the season started, the offense was absolutely putrid and Devin Hester was rarely used as a wide receiver. What in the world happened? Were those reports really accurate or not? Where was Devin Hester?

Why does it seem that every team that the Bears play is able to make half time adjustments while it seems that the Bears never do?

Of all the draft picks and free agents the Bears have used on their offensive line, is there really no one to step up and make it so the Bears don't have to draft for the offensive line? Why do other teams, like the Patriots and Colts seem to have much more success drafting offensive linemen?

In your opinion, who are the top 10 linemen in this years draft and why?

Cedric Benson looked slow and fat last year. Is that an illusion or is he slower and fatter than he was at Texas?

Why didn't Mark Bradley play more last year? Was Mushin Muhammed really that much better?

Compared to other NFL franchises, where do the Bears rank in judging talent?

Lovie Smith always says "trust me", but when things don't seem to be working out very well, he is slow to change. Are other NFL coaches so slow to change as well.

Can Turner and Babich really get the job done? or are they like Lovie Smith, unable to adapt?

I've seen some mock drafts where both Jeff Otah and Chris Williams will be available when the Bears pick. Compare and contrast these players in relation to how they fit the Bear's system. Thank You.

What are the chances Lovie and his coaches will actually develop someone if not a possible timetable for their dismissal?

brad,

love the blog!, just a question on urlacher's contract, is it possible he had a written or unwritten clause in his deal, to always be the higher paid bears linebacker?( saw some quotes his deal would make hima bear for life)- as to why asking for a bump now?.. or is it just the greed that p rose so much from his deal in 2003?

Could Bears trade up for Clady? With 11 picks in this years draft could the Bears move up to the Buffalo Bills #11 spot to nab Ryan Clady? If he was still on the board he would be a player that would help us immediately at left tackle allowing Tait to move to his more natural right tackle spot. The Bills it seems will be looking for a skill position player and are a team that builds primarily through the draft. Extra picks would help them and they could still get either Malcolm Kelly or Rodgers Cromartie. What would the Bears have to give up to move up 3 spots in the first round?

Make a case for both Grossman and Orton as Bears starting QB...

In his 20 years of running drafts between the Bears and Tampa, How many Pro Bowl Offensive Tackles has Angelo drafted? What could be considered Angelos best offensive draft class? Who would be considered his top ten offensive draft picks and who would be his top ten offensive line draft picks?

I'll hang up now and listen for your answer.

What's the deal with Cedric Benson? Is he really expected to miss a step after his injury or is that just a rumor? And are the coaches going to have him slim down and practice his receiving skills(which he needs.) I think Ced can still be very productive (Note: see 2006 season). He just has to be conditioned better. I mean, his last two games before the injury he showed some nice runs. Thanks Brad.

We definitely need big time upgrade on the OL we all know this, it makes the most sense to pick up one of the top 4 tackles or possibly even the guard Albert with the # 14 pick this year but my question is this.... at least 1 or more of the 5 top OL will be on the board when the bears are on the clock, assuming they don't trade down who would the bears pass on out of those 5 to address another position like RB,WR,DT,QB,S, in other words, of the top 5 OL is there any one of them you can not see being a bear?

do the Bears have enough money to do contract extensions for Tommie H., Devin H., Robie G., and now Brain U. PLUS , sign all their draft picks?

I think it is important that Bears fans know what Adam Archuleta ( S ) AND Cedric Benson ( RB ) got paid last season and will get paid this season to truly understand how the Bears ARE WASTING THEIR $$$$$$$$$.

Brad, I have two question.
First: You see Matt Forte playing for the Bears? How about his away of playing. You think it fits with the Bears offense style?

And seconde: If the teams, in picks 1-13, draft all the four better tackles (Long, Clady, Williams and Otah), you think Bears in pick 14 would go on Mendenhall or Brohn? If they still available, off course.

Thanks, and sorry for my bad english! :)

From the 2001 season up to the 2007 season where does the Bears rank in defense against the NFL?(point allowed, points scored, take aways, passing yards allowed, and rushing yards allowed)
From 2001-2007 how many defensive players represented the Bears at the Pro Bowl and who?

It seems that the Bears have a pressing need for a tackle and a featured back. My question is; the Bears seem to have 6 guards/centers on their roster, is there a chance that any of those guys could make the transition to tackle? This may provide some needed depth at that position. If that is possible, it would allow the Bears to select a back with the 14th pick. I think all fans know, that no matter what line you put Benson behind, he can't get you more than 3 yards a carry. Also, a quick note, I scanned through the Bears past draft picks, and all I can say is OMG, they have not had an offensive player pan out since Neal Anderson and Brad Muster!

Bears fan from Texas, Luis
PS Jamal Charles fumbles way to much but, he is FAST!

What are the odds of Urlacher getting the extension that the GREATLY earned this upcoming season, to put is lightly?

Sasho

Durham, NH

how many more years do we have to put up with rex grossman and cedric benson on our roster before smith and angelo admit they are busts, move on and replace them? i'd rather cut them and have dead money on the books then watch those two play one more down for the bears.

Who do you see as possible trade partners with the Bears in the draft? Does anyone have a surplus of 2nd or 3rd picks?

Bear's fans seem fanatic about drafting Mendenhall. I'm a Big 10 fan and Mendenhall didn't seem to be a sure fire 1st round pick coming out of college. He had a great combine and he's a pretty good RB, but this draft seems really deep at the position. So, is Mendenhall really worth the hype (and the 14th pick), or is he getting too much love from the hometown fans? To put it another way, can we get a back with the same potential at a later pick who isn't a local favorite?

If (only) one of the top four tackles and Rashard Mendenhall are still on the board when the Bears pick, What do you think is most likely:
1) Top 4 tackle with #14
2) Mendenhall with #14
3) Trade down with someone who takes Mendenhall.
4) other

I personally don't want to see Mendenhall in Detroit. Peterson in the division is bad enough.

Most of the mock drafts have discussed the Bears need for an offensive tackle, running back, and quarterback (which I agree with, a lot). Within the first round, either an offensive tackle or running back is projected to be taken by the Bears. My question is this: what about the Bears need to draft a wide receiver... and where could that fit (if at all) in the first 3 rounds of the draft?

You are the best credible source for the latest news on the Bears.
What do you think of 3rd and 4th round OL picks Kirk Barton OT Ohio State, Mike McGlynn OG Pitt, Jeremy Zuttah OG Rutgers? Also, do you see the Bears picking up guys like Rivers WR Hawaii and J Leman ILB Illinois (nfldraftscout.com has him projected as a undrafted free agent which is insane) with their extra 7th round picks?

How long do you think it will take the Bears to deem Project Babich a complete and utter failure?

I feel the Bears could use another playmaker, either at running back or WR. What RB and WR prospects in the upcoming draft intrigue you the most? Who could help the Bears right away? I like the possibility of the Bears adding the TX RX Jamal Charles.

Do you believe in picking best athlete or pick based on need?

With that said, after Clady are there any OL candidates that would be ranked higher than Mendenhall in the draft? And what do you think at #14 pick, if it were your team would you pick Mendenhall at #14 or O.L. if Clady was gone and the other OL ranked better were gone?

How feasable would it be for the Bears to trade Benson to move up in the draft of to obtain two first round picks or keep their own at #14 and obtain an early round two pick? Maybe Dallas would be interested since he is local to Texas?

Once Lovie's and Angelo's contracts run out after the 2010 season, who are the best prospects for GM and head coach for the 2011 season (I am assuming that the McCaskey's will not eat any salaries and can these guys any earlier)?

Last training camp, the media reported that the Bear's offense looked really good, that the offense consistently outplayed the defense, and that Devin Hester looked like a natural at wide receiver. Then the season started. The offense was putrid and Devin Hester rarely played. What happened?

Is it my imagination, or do the Bears coaches have more trouble making adjustments during games and/or the season than other teams?

Which do the Bears need more in the first round, a stud left tackle or a stud running back?

Are there any updates on Rashied Davis?

Do NFL players ever get spot rewards due to exceptional performance that fall outside of their contract? For instance, when Rex Grossman was NFC player of the month (seems like a lifetime ago), would it ever happen that an owner would throw him say $25k as recognition for an outstanding accomplishment? Or, do they stay strictly to the details of the contract? It's something I've always wondered. . .

I don't understand how the Bears can have a player on their team for 7 years like Metcalf and then think he cannot be an instant starter. How could they be surprised by his poor play ... as it has been described last year? And if Beekman isn't ready to play the position he was drafted to play after a year with the Bears, doesn't this say Bears Offense coaches can't develop players and the Angelo personnel team can't draft offensive players?

Mike Brown seems to be the glue to this defense. How is his rehab coming and how is his attitude?

On the QB situation. Is it going to be a "real" competition? Who do you think will start at QB week 1?

Brad,

What do you think the Bears will do to remain loyal to Urlacher, but also maintain the brilliant decision to keep "Don't kick it to Hester!" Devin? Do you also believe the Bears will remain loyal to Brian especially because he has not taken the level of disrespect to the Bears as fellow linebacker Lance Briggs did?

I would like to see the Bears trade up and take Mendenhall at 14 and Joe Flacco with their next pick. The o-line can get a boost from some lesser talent but still capable tackles and guards in later rounds and with a REAL quaterback and stud (not dud) running back we could take the pressure off the o-line to be spectacular.

Brad,

With the depth at OT, RB, and WR in this draft who do you see as possible trade down partners? A move to the lower to middle 20s in the first round would get us, at least, an additional 2nd round pick.

Are either Beekman or Metcalf going to be the other starting guard for the Bears in 2008? Or is there a mid/bottom tier veteran or a 3rd/4th round draft pick going to be the starter?

what do you think of Josh Johnson (QB from San Diego) and what do you think the chances of the bears drafting him?

Why not offer Kevin Jones a contract? He'd have to come cheap, and the Bears would have to be an attractive landing spot for the former Lion.

I have heard a rumor that Cedric Benson's injury is much worst than what the Bears are publicly saying and that it is possibly career threatening. What is the status of Cedric Bensons injury?

If Mendenhall is still on the board when the Bears pick 14th in the draft, what are the chances of the Bears passing on picking a offensive lineman and taking who many believe is the best RB in this years draft?

With the way Jamar Williams played at the end of the 2007 year, could we possibly see an new linebacker trio with Briggs-Urlacher-Williams? If so with the dept they will have at LB with last years draft picks, will the Bears consider trading Hunter Hillenmeyer for a fourth or fifth round pick in this years draft? To the LB needy New England Patriots maybe?

Mr. Biggs what do you think of this years offensive line class? I have seen it written, that this class is deep but not highly talented, in that it has no real elite players but a bunch of good players. Would you agree with that assessment?

Also what do you think of this years running back class? Myself I think it is an elite class at the top with solid talent into round 3.

Do you think the Bears would pass on Rashard Mendenhall (if he was available of course) for an OT such as Otah or Williams? Personally I think the OL could be addressed in the 2nd and 3rd rounds if we could land a talented back like Mendenhall.

I just think Mendenhall is a better talent at RB than Otah or Williams are at OT. If Mendenhall is available, I think he should be the choice, your thoughts?

Kerry Smith (Apex,NC): "Is Halas Hall or tourable?"
Who asked this Charles Barkley?

Mr.X: blah-blah-blah-more stupidity-blah-blah ... "Hester is the ONLY reason why I would consider watching this season. They better pay that man TOP DOLLAR!"
Yes, let's overpay the guy so we can capture the coveted demographic of having Mr. X watch this season. Let's forget about all the other needs this team has and the fact that Hester still has not developed as a receiver and just throw money at him and hope for the best because god knows if Mr. X don't watch this year none of us can truly enjoy the season. Mr. X didn't include his location but I am guessing it always has "fair-weather."

Brandon: "Make a case for both Grossman and Orton as Bears starting QB..."
Both men have two arms. Your turn.

DAN WILSON KNOX, IN.: "I think it is important that Bears fans know what Adam Archuleta ( S ) AND Cedric Benson ( RB ) got paid last season and will get paid this season to truly understand how the Bears ARE WASTING THEIR $$$$$$$$$."
If you think it's so important you couldn't waste 30 seconds doing a Google search like I did? It probably took you that long to add all those dollar signs and capital letters to your post.

Luis from TEXAS: "Also, a quick note, I scanned through the Bears past draft picks, and all I can say is OMG, they have not had an offensive player pan out since Neal Anderson and Brad Muster!"
OMG!!! Luis, apparently you "skimmed" the draft picks because if you "scanned" them you may have found a guy named Olin Kreutz drafted in 1998 whose done nothing but go to Pro Bowls his entire career. Then I read you were from Texas and realized you're probably one of those "left behind" children GWB keeps talking about.

Ummm filling in for Brad I think Luis was being a bit sarcastic, your right they did draft Olin. Angelo didn't draft him but hey we got one player who will be leaving us in the next 3 years.

Your comment to Dan Wilson makes no sense.

Also your comment to Brandon makes no sense. While having two ars is indeed a need for a QB, I do not think that is what he meant and if that is all you need to be the Bears QB sign me up.

You seem very angry.

I got an idea for you sense Brad Biggs is an all growed up big boy and this is his board maybe you can let him answer his own questions.

Also I was thinking maybe you should change your name to Wanna Be Brad Biggs sense I don't recall Brad asking you to fill in for him. Or just plain Wanna Be would probably fit. Oh also Anger Managment would probably do as well.

Thanks for all your great insight though, "two arms" hahahaha, I chuckle, that was very clever of you. Hey do they also need two legs genius?

"Ummm filling in for Brad I think Luis was being a bit sarcastic, your right they did draft Olin. Angelo didn't draft him but hey we got one player who will be leaving us in the next 3 years."
Ummmm, you FAIL at reading comprehension but then I read your writing so I understood why.

"Your comment to Dan Wilson makes no sense."
He asked for basic salary information that could be found in a 30-second google search. Do we actually need Brad to "google" things these days? ... Oh wait, in reading your post - and most others - it seems blatantly obvious most of you wear plastic white helmets while banging your head against the keyboard. My bad.

"Also your comment to Brandon makes no sense. While having two ars is indeed a need for a QB, I do not think that is what he meant and if that is all you need to be the Bears QB sign me up."
And now you get the joke. While you're taking basic english look up the term "sarcasm". The more you know!

"You seem very angry."
Not really just bored and really despise Meatball, knuckle-draggers like yourself who couldn't put a sentence together with the ghost of Ernest Hemingway sitting next to them.

"I got an idea for you sense Brad Biggs is an all growed up big boy and this is his board maybe you can let him answer his own questions."
Wow, I can't even begin to tell you how many things are wrong with that statement. First clue: SINCE > sense.

"Also I was thinking maybe you should change your name to Wanna Be Brad Biggs sense I don't recall Brad asking you to fill in for him. Or just plain Wanna Be would probably fit. Oh also Anger Managment would probably do as well."
And I repeat, SINCE > sense much like Creighton > sense. Gee, Anger Management advice from some douche who I was not addressing. Hey Pot! ... Kettle is on the phone, he says that "You're black!"

"Thanks for all your great insight though, "two arms" hahahaha, I chuckle, that was very clever of you. Hey do they also need two legs genius?"
Wow, that was your big finish? Really? You are way to clever for me. I mean with your terrible grammar, spelling, idiocy and douchiness, how would I even begin to respond to a guy like you? Oh wait, just did.

// Thank you for rekindling my lack of interest in message boards.

Well there Wanna be I don't really work on my spelling here on the boards and I am not trying to pretend I am a writer. But you couln't even counter a single thing I said on a football blog. Instead you where like yeah your a bad speller. Wow well you are a good speller, you know nothing about football, but you can spell. Good for you. Maybe you can find a spelling bee to go hang out at.

And I repeat, SINCE > sense much like Creighton > sense. Gee, Anger Management advice from some douche who I was not addressing. Hey Pot! ... Kettle is on the phone, he says that "You're black!"

Wow again you seem very angry, and last I checked all those people you insulted where not addressing you, but that didn't stop you from insulting them did it? It's funny you seem to like to insult people but you have not said a single thing about football on a football blog. My guess is you have no clue about the game and are some wanna be fan who has to much time on his hands and not much of a life. Which would explain the anger.

But boy you got me, you insult everyone for no reason and you think you are a great guy. I stand up for some people who I talk with on these boards because you attacked them for no reason and I am the jerk.

You should keep calling people names, guys like you are always real tough hidden behind your computers. Like I said your name should be Anger Managment. Maybe next time you can actually post something about football. I know, what a stretch on a football blog.
