The wait is over, Bears finally take a player in 4th round

| 25 Comments | No TrackBacks

After dealing down twice in the fourth round already, the Bears went ahead and grabbed their man.

Following deals with Miami and then Tampa Bay to add a seventh-round pick and move up into the fifth round from the sixth round, they selected safety Craig Steltz from LSU.

The Bears pick next at 142 in Rd. 5, the ninth pick of that round.

Where is my quarterback? There are two good choices available. Angelo is being lame in this draft.

what a reach!!!

Craig Steltz when Josh Barrett is still on the board ... We go after a DT and a Safety when there are Guards and Tackles on the board who could help immediately.

Wasted pick - again. Even if we absolutely needed a safety how do you pass up Barrett who has blazing speed and is a perfect Cover 2 safety?

I like this pick. I watched a ton of SEC Football and this guy was very important to the LSU D. Made a ton of players. I am a little concerned about his speed.

Another 0-Lineman or yes maybe A QB

well now what? go for qb, a guard? any thoughts?

GET THIS GUY OUT OF TOWN HE IS REACHING FOR A SAFETY THAT WILL BE THERE IN THE 7TH ROUND WITH THE OFFENSIVE LINEMEN STILL ON THE BOARD, WHAT A JACKA$$.

So Angelo says the Saftie class sucks tis year and then wastes a 4th round pick on one. Special Teams all the way, no chance to start. Way to address offense JA.

Angelo just can't help himself can he? We need Offense so bad and he's picking D-Tackles and Safeties? Come on Jerry!!!

Why are they not making picks? The O-Line still needs help. And still no QB.

Steltz was compared to Plank- I watched Plank all his games and he was always just barely beating the `piling on buzzer' - not a bad thing, a HITTER. ESPN stooges rate him high.
hmmm shore up the D and it will fix the Offense. I really like these D picks but we needed offense in the worst way! You can not count on the 3 picks fixing our terrible offense.

A Guard for sure. I do not want to ever see T Metcalf again and I want somebody challenging Garza. I think I counted on Garza for at least 2 false starts every game.

If we don't get a Guard then I want more WR help.

lovie wanted to make sure the new guy can't outrun archuleta. hopefully he can wrap up better.

Wait...What? Yeah I think he did, Jerry Angelo traded down in another draft. WHAT A SURPRISE!

Waisted pick, WE NEED AN ORG AND A QB NOW.

Andre Woodson, or even Josh Johnson at this point.

GOOD GOD!

Is it just me, or is Angelo thumbing his nose at the people of Chicago? Beekman could not get on the field at all last year and we have NO offensive line depth.

Furthermore, we still have not addressed the need for a speed receiver or future quaterback, and Angelo is picking Tank Johnson II and a safety. This is the height of arrogance.

djssr...agreed!! there was way better talent on the board at that point. My math may be a little rusty, but 5 OL starters minus 2, + 1 only adds up to 4

Can't believe we might miss out on seriously building a better offense. QB, TE or guard should be high on their list of upgrades. But nothing, we really use second day picks poorly.

Safety was a definite need - we can't keep counting on Mike Brown being healthy, because he's always hurt. Archuleta is terrible. Good pick. The QBs will all be there in Round 5, and we now have an extra 5th round pick to boot. QB and G in Round 5.

I kind of like schuening if hes there but for crying out loud are we going to get another qb?

I could not agree with Paul more. Guards and Receivers. Justice from Wake Forest is still there. So is Nicks from Nebraska who some say would be a great guard in the league even though he was a college tackle.

Angelo wants to start St. Clair at OG next year, Metcalf and Beekman are your back ups, if he makes another oline pick before round seven it will probably be a OT or a guy who can back up at multiple positions. It's time for defense we already have two QB's yes most teams have three, but we have the to best there are. We have no need at QB besides he has already had to admitt he missed on Benson, do you think he is going to admitt he missed on Rex as well in the same year?

I want Nicks out of Nebraska. If we are looking for A wideout what about the kid from Hawaii.

Our problems start at the TOP, Ownership then Angelo not having the walnuts to tell McCasky that if they want to be the cheapest team in the league then they can run the team themselves. It's time for the great fans of Chicago to boycot. Don't go to the 1st game. Don't sell or give your tickets away, just don't go. WE NEED EMPTY SEATS TO MAKE A POINT. What good are all the 7th round picks? We could invite the same talent as free agents.
