General manager Jerry Angelo said safety Mike Brown (ACL, knee) and runing back Cedric Benson ( broken leg/ankle) should be "up and going with no restrictions" by the end of May.

Angelo said all players under contract should be cleared for participation by then.

Check back soon for more.

Wow they should be up and going (so there is a chance they will both be walking thats good), with no restrictions (so they wont need there wheelchairs anymore, good to know)

I am tremendously happy for Mike Brown. Apparently, his rehab is coming along and he is going to receive another opportunity from the Bears too. I hate it when people criticize him for being too injury prone. See David Haugh. Urlacher wants more money and Berrian sold out to a division rival for cash. Mike Brown isn't greedy for money. He is greedy for respect and he deserves it too. I remember him crying in San Diego last season after the most recent injury and thinking wow what if all the Bears had this type of passion? It takes a man to persevere through all of his injuries. And, he is a man of character. It doesn't have to be 2001 for Mike Brown to make plays. He will show everyone in 2008.

I am happy to see that mike is going to be ready to go soon. I hope all his bad luck is behind him and we can get our premier safety back. Cedric "the joke" benson on the other hand I hope it takes him a lot longer to complete his rehab, like all the way to december, because that will only make our offense better

Creighton i couldn't agree more. Mike Brown is a beast on the field and in three quarters played last year he got an INT. He plays so hard and Urlacher said he is the best football player he has ever been around, and he's the undisputed team leader. I don't know how good he can be but i bet above average. If he does't get injured and i know it's a big if he could be a probowler and our D could dominate again. When is opening day!?

I wish we could take mike Browns heart and stick it into Bensons body. I also wish that Urlacher would grow up and take the money that is already promised to him. What if everybody was able to act like a baby and not work because they did nt like the contract that they had. He should be yelling at his agent for having him sign such a long deal. I dont feel bad for a man that is making millions and believes he deserves more. Trade him and a draft pick for Chad 'ocho cinco' Johnson. Atleast all he cares about is winning and not the money.

Creighton you seem to be a little cynical today. I would not dis on Mike Brown he has been a warrior out there for the Bears and leaves it all on the field.

As for Benson, he ain't the bus but he needs to catch the bus.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I just don't understand the criticism toward Benson. We all know he had little or no blocking last season, and that Ruben Brown and Fred Miller shouldn't have been on the field last season. What was Benson supposed to do? He seldom had a hole to run thru. Regardless of what you think of him, the Bears need to have him back at full strength. I'm very happy for Mike Brown.

So if they are going to be ready to go without restrictions by the end of May, we should be able to gauge what we can expect out of them for the upcoming season right now. Our draft strategy will tell us what the team thinks of their guys. If we draft a physical running back, then Benson is not in the future plans. If we draft a speed guy, then they expect Benson to carry the load. As far as Brown, if we draft a safety before the 6th round, Brown is a concern. If not, we are content with Payne, Brown, Manning, McGowan, and Archuleta.

I would not be inclined to count on Brown any more. Too many injuries to his lower legs, and for a DB, that is not good. As far as Benson, I am not ready to close the book on him yet. He was a 4 yard per carry back before this season for 2 years, and I think he can be again with a little help from the line and passing game.

I like Mike a lot he was a great player in the past but after 4 years of injury I just don't count on him to make an impact. If he does make an impact it's a pleasent surprise, if he doesn't it's no shock. Win Win for me.

Benson does not need to catch a Bus he needs to get hit by one. What a waste of a #4 pick.

Why don't the Bears release these two distractions and provide more money for the organization to give to Hester, Harris, and Gould and futer stars. Brown is a man who has a heart but is hugely frail. It seems that we can place bets on when he'll get injured rather than if he'll get injured. Benson, on the other hand, simply doesn't express any form of care for the game let alone love for it. I'm quite frankly surprised that the Bears have not released him because he certainly brings more cringes than smiles to the fans. They should play hard ball and release the two. Though that is my opinion.

crayon is a nobody and i wouldn't spend too much time reading his garbage.. mike brown will be fine the guy missed last year because of an illegal horse collar. i guess your black and white tv with foil paper around antenna didn't pick that up mr. crayon aka creighton.

Glad to see that things are going well with Brown's rehab. Benson also, we all know you need two backs to get through an NFL season so for those hating on Cedric, get a grip this guy may still be able to help us.Looking forward to the draft, there are a lot of good value players at the positions of need for the BEARS, O-line good value in rounds 3-5, not just first, I expect to get two linemen from this draft, RB, should get someone solid in 3rd round even if they pick up Brohm in round 2 ( doubt he'll be there), and WR good middle round value there as well...If Angelo finally does somehing in the draft on offesive side of the ball we are back in playoffs..

My take on this is that Angelo is laying out a little pre-draft misinformation, perhaps to create the mistaken impression that the Bears have no intention of picking up a RB or S on the first day. Perhaps Illini and Mendenhall fans should take heart? . . . Honestly, it's not worth getting your dander up, yet. It's B.S. anyway. Just be pleasantly surprised, or vehemently incensed with the Bears make their first move. . . . .

We will get a OT in the first round. If Benson is any back at all he better have a good year not great but good, as OT will need time to develop. Brown/Benson/Harris weren't those the guy's no show at the big game? Benson/Jones were an awsome combo - first Speed then Power confused the other teams Defensive Line - I would like to see that combo again.
Key is the Offensive Line, if we take a lower OT we will die. Read Mulligan's article - he hit the ball rith thru the upright.

OMG Jerseygirl you never learn. You must be kidding your a running joke around this place. You didn't even know the Bears play a Tampa 2, you don't even understand football. Put your foot back in your mouth were it belongs. Mike Brown has missed 14 games in 04, 4 games in 05, he missed 10 games in 06 and 15 games in 07, I bet you didn't even know that, I bet you have been watching football for a year, probably one of those kids who jumped on the bandwagon in 06-07. Yeah right I am gonna count on this guy to be healthy. Get a clue Jersey. I like Brown but I will call it right now he plays in no more than 8 games.

dont know if you saw yet but the Seahawks- rather amazingly- are about to release Shawn Alexander. When healthy, do you see him at all as a complement to Benson? The guy is still just 30, i think he'd be worthy of a 1-year flyer, right? could you see JA taking a flyer on a restoration project in hopes that he can get a RB with our 3rd or 4th pick?

i'd feel much more comfortable w/ Alexander than w/ Benson...at least we know that one guy can play when healthy.

thoughts?

BRAD SAYS: You want another back who is slow heading toward the hole? I'd say there's no chance.

Ur right Melo, it's all b.s. although it's easy to get caught up
Saw where JA posted his best list in the draft, more bs

ok, ok Brad but it was nice thinking about it

holy cow creighton, make up your mind will ya!!! first you say watch out for brown in 2008 and then your next post you say he's frail. randall i would take that bet. i know brown has missed alot of games these past 4 years, but that only means he's well rested ;o)~ ... when i read what JA said today i thought it could be a smoke screen, but he would be a fool to take mendenhall(as much i would like him to) over a tackle. i think we need to go 2 o-linemen in the first 3 picks. and they have to end up being starters!!! if we dont get 2 solid OL rex will be on his back all year long and whoever we have running wont be getting any yards. which means our defense will be out on the field 3/4 the time again, and we'll have all those injuries again......woohoo.....cant wait until saturday!!!

MIKE sez: Ricosteel, not only is Alexander 30, he's always had difficulty doing the other things a RB needs to do like catching passes. I think he would only be dead weight.

No no no, no Alexander, we need good players on this team. Watching Benson and Alexander on the same team would be like watching Clydesdales compete for the Arlington million.

Yes, cedrick was a bust, but Ron Turner did'nt help him much by contantly pitching the ball back 5 to 6 yards and making him run 8 yards for a net gain of 2 or 3. My whole posse would see the formation and yell "here we go again, you know whats coming" I lost respect for both our offensive and defensive play callers. At least Ron Rivera would occasionaly deviate from the cover two and call blitz. I'll still watch this train wreck to pull for a top ranked defense and God bless them with health to match Mike Browns heart!

What do you mean Cedric Benson up and running, he runs like he's carying a piano on his back.

Anonymous: What are you talking when did I ever say watch out for Brown in 08. I said I like Brown which I do, he is a nice guy and has a lot of Heart. But I have never said he should be starting or to watch out for him in 08. You must get confused when you read. Me say watch out for Mike Brown in 08, yeah right, no way you have ever read one of my posts.
