This is great news for the Bears that Lance has decided to stay, I really think this will be the year to flip flop him and Brian once in a while and keep Quarterbacks guessing which direction they`ll be attacking from. It seems that more and more defensive coordinators are running "hybrid" schemes anyways, I hate to admit this, well, OK, I really don`t, but I am just all giggly with the thought of the Bears getting Vernon Gholston with the 14th pick, OK, I have to admit something else, I really love it when we kill the other teams Quarterback, and another pass rusher would really turn up the heat.

This is great news,i still have faith in our bears!

now all you bears need is a QB, and Rb, and WR, and OL lol

go pack

It's great that we keep a pro bowl caliber player like Briggs, but now can we PLEASE address the offensive line! Gholston at 14? He won't be there when we pick, and we have so many other needs.

I'll I can say is: BOOOOOM!!! That's the reality of it. Go Bears!!!

Hey Matt. I couldn't agree more on the RB and possibly the WR. But if we give Orton a chance I'm sure he can prove all us skeptics wrong. Now all you guys need are some players who don't use Bengay, Aspercream, Centrum Silver, or Medicare. Lol. Go Bears!

WHEW! Thankfully we keep our defense intact...and for alot less than I thought Rosenhaus would let him take! Now let's just see what we can do about Ayanbadejo...as well as recievers.

I think we'll be fine on O-line in the draft

Now, how do we go about getting a GOOD recievers coach who can develop talent?

well with the defense all but shored up for the immediate future I hope the team can focus on the offense. If we can get a free agent reciever and o linemen we might have a chance to make the playoffs, but I don't see the team doing that with out making those additions. Starting two rookie o linemen and having no true number one reciever is not the way to enter a season, because Devin hester is who you use to keep the defense honest not as an every down recievier.Lets hope the drat gods are with us on picking up a runningback. Still alot of holes Jerry A !!!

we had the 2nd youngest roster in the NFL last year....nice try.
I would rather see you win than the vikqueens though.

Well if Urlacher goes down with an injury we do have a guy who can step in and play the middle. The cheap bears did the right thing.

Is funny how Lance came beging back for money. Lol he over rated himself!

Great, but our defense still needs a safety. I love Mike Brown, but can he stay healthy? What was Lovie thinking when he got Adam Archuleta last year?

Briggs is now signed....for less than Berrian....Vikings definately overpaid. We now need to sign a 2nd tier FA guard and a FA WR (Hackett or B.Johnson). The rest is in the draft. Best OT first round and best RB in second and QB in third. I'm thinking Otah (start RT as rook and slide over to LT next year) in the first........Ray Rice in the second.....and Henne or Flacco in the third.

Glad to see Briggs is staying, I kind of agree with the poster about trade possibilities for either Hunter and/or Jamal, for a pick or prospect receiver...I think the focus should be on Bryant Johnson at this point as FA receiver coming in to help Bears, we can get back in the draft, the way things are looking right now and o-lineman, how about a flyer on LJ Shelton also, he has size needed to play right tackle as ins...as for matt get out the blog and you know where the pack can GO........LLEH

Great News!!!!!!!! Now we need to contact D.J. Hackett and bring him in here to fill in for Moose, Jacob Bell on the o-line, draft Otah in the 1st, wideout 2nd, rb and qb 3rd, we also need a safety eith through the draft or remaining FA's.

I guarantee you that there are a hell of a lot more Bernies than there are Lances out there.

Stop complaining about Archuleta, hes making the league minimum he doesnt hurt us at all.
The draft is deep at tackle and if we can get a LT in the 1st we canmove Tait to his original RT. Turner is an Illinois guy and would defidently come here if he gets an good offer. If its down to us and Atlanta i would hope he would come to chicago.
I like Bryant Johnson, he was always behind two studs and never had a chance to develop. If we can pick him up and take a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round we should be good enough behind a good defense.

I am proud to say that I'd rather have had a defensive deadly weopon like Briggs back who can guarantee us support as well as our "Monsters of the Midway" nickname. We have always prided ourselves on the fear of our enemies' offense via our D, and instead of potentially wasting that lump sum on BB, on our struggling O we stiffened our D which can remain strong, and potentially remain the fear mongerers we are. Go Bears!!!!!

Briggs is over rated, not a single team wanted him. When are the bears gonna cut Archuleta? As for people talking about the Draft, Oline in the first is crazy you will get the same quality of player in the second and early third rounds at OLine, it's real deep and Long is the only special player among them everyone else is very good but not great and there is not a big difference between those guys. Mendenhall, is the guy in the first round IMO he is the best RB in the draft he does everything extremely well and has no real injury history. Even if the Bears go O Line in the first who ever they pick will probably not start in most cases it takes awhile to gel with the other guys and get up to NFL speed. O line men drafted this year will not have a huge impact on the Bears because of this. I hope they wait till the second round, my guess is they probably will. I noticed the Bears are not talking about Running Backs at all which means that is probably the way they will go. Ced is done and Peterson and Wolf are not good.

Well, Berrian is gone, YIPPPPPPEEEEEEEE! Now we'll have to live through Briggs being here again. What the Bears really need is a head coach who has a clue. What were they listed for defense in the NFL for 2007? C'mom. Boob Bobich can't coordinate his underwear out of his back side......I do not believe Lovie Howell Smith will not get back to the Super Bowl with the Bears.

Is it just me or is this just about the same deal (36 million over 6 years) he turned down two years ago? No doubt the character issue played a role in the new Roger Goodell policed NFL.

Now lets see JA divert Johnsons flight to O' Hare and get him signed as well. I totally agree with OL #1, RB #2, and WR #3. GO BEAR!

Lovie Smith already said hes okay starting a rookie on the line. Which means that our draft pick will start at OT. Both RB and OT are very deep in the draft so I really depends on whether sombody falls farther than expected to us. If we can sign Turner our concerns shrink to WR, LG, RT, and DT. DT isnt a huge concern, and Safty is more a ? than a big concern. Manning will one day be a stud, and Brown is a stud when healthy is great, but theres so way to know if that will happen. The bears are fine on D, but this draft we need to get some good picks on O.

Based on the deals being signed, I doubt that was the best offer out there. It goes to show Briggs has more character than some are giving him credit for as he gave the Bears a 'break'. Also, ever since the Bears hinted at tampering charges against 49ers they backed out so they probably did tamper. In which case is Briggs here for the long term or is being trade to 49ers for whatever the Bears originally tried getting for him?

Hooray! Not for us, but for his children! He can actually feed them now. So we retain a decent linebacker and Lovie Hussein Smith can continue to stand on the sidelines and listen to Smooth Jazz rather than actually, like, coach.

Great, lets waste 6 mill on a guy that nobody else wanted. Now we have no deep threat reciever( and the first person to mention Hester catches a beating, he needs to develop some hands and grow another 12") or safties. The O-line is about 6 months away from Social Security and Bears Fans are counting on Kyle Orton to solidify the QB position. Why doesn't eveyone just admit it, IT A REBUILDING YEAR!

Bear Down!

Looks the Defense will scoring all the points again this year.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU GUYS BUT I'M HAPPY WITH THE BEARS SIGNING BRIGGS. EVEN THOUGH HE ACTED THE WAY HE DID WITH HIS WHOLE "I'LL NEVER PLAY FOR DA BEARS AGAIN" HANDS DOWN I STILL BELIEVE HE'S THE BEST WEAKSIDE LINEBACKER IN THE GAME. AS FOR BERRIAN I REALLY LIKED HIM BUT FOR THAT PRICE WERE BETTER LETTING HIM GO. (AS FOR RECEIVERS): I SAY MAKE A PUSH FOR JAVON WALKER OR MOSS, WE HAVE THE MONEY TO DO IT. HELL I WOULD EVEN LIKE MARTY BOOKER BACK. (AS FOR OFFENSE LINE): SIGN TOM ASHWORTH A GUARD AND PICK UP A TOP OFFENSE TACKLE IN THE DRAFT WITH OUR 14TH PICK. {AS FOR RUNNING BACKS): USE OUR 2ND ROUND PICK OR EVEN CONSIDER JULIUS JONES HE'S A GOOD BACK. I'D RATHER HAVE THOMAS JONES BACK BUT BONE HEAD JERRY ANGELO SOMETIMES MAKES THESE WACK DECISIONS.(AS FOR QUARTER BACK): I THINK WITH THE PROPER PROTECTION AND GETTING THE RUNNING GAME GOING REX GROSSMAN WILL BE FINE. AFTER HE CAME BACK FROM BEING BENCHED HE DID PLAY MUCH BETTER I KNOW I KNOW IT WAS ONLY THREE GAMES BUT U GUYS HAVE TO CONSIDER THAT OUR RUNNING GAME NEVER GOT GOING IN 2007 AND THE PUTS ALOT OF PRESSURE ON THE QB. BOTTOM LINE IS WE NEED TO MAKE OUR LINE STRONGER GET THE RUNNING GAME GOING AND PICK UP 1 TRUE #1 RECEIVER THE REST SHOULD FALL INTO PLACE. ONE MORE THING SIGN HESTER NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE CUZ U KNOW THE MAN'S GONNA GET PAID AND U KNOW THE BEARS HABITS FOR NOT SPENDING TOP DOLLAR.

First of all, Briggs was offer more money, 49ers backed out of it because if they would have signed him, they would be facing charges. All of you want these new WR's, I think Mark Bradley will do a good job, he knows the system. Hester will be fine once he learn to read the D and understand his job as a WR, Hess will become a good WR but not great but good WR for us. Why should we get another WR, have we forgot about our TE's we have. There good, give them credit. The O line and the RB is what we should improve on and the rest will take care itself.

Forget Julius Jones. He's useless. He stinks. Just because he's from Notre Dame and he was ok there you northerners think he's ok in the NFL. He's useless and was running behind a line that made Marion Barber a Pro Bowler. Bears ...sign the best receiver then O-Lineman you can in free agency, then draft O-Line and the rest of the offense, receivers .... the whole draft. Receivers are useless as rookies, but you have to get them sometime

Good job Bears! Keep the one that is harder to replace. A WR is easy to replace, whether it's Hester, BRadley, or some rookie. Don't forget we have two exceptional pass cating TE's. I see the 2-TE set being a consistent formation next year. They are both a mismatch when covered by anyone not named Urlacher or Briggs (the two very best pass coverage backers in the league BTW).

I would like to see them sign Jake Scott (G from Indy) to at least compoete with Metcalf, and Garza. Maybe they know something about Reed that we don't know. But if they don't, then they can get enough in the draft this year.

Keep gettin the front 7 better and the O-line better. If Mendenhall is there at 14, YOU TAKE HIM!!!. Plenty of O-lineman in this draft. If somehow (extremely doubtful)Dorsey fell, then you have to take him. Would be unfare to the rest of the league to have T. Harris and Dorsey next to one another in the one-gap cover 2 DT position.I doubt Mendenhall is there at 14. The Bears may want to look at the LB from USC (I think his name is Kieth Rivers). He is big (255), tall (6'4"), and fast (4.57s 40 yd dash). He may be the best player available when Bears pick, and then again, did they have to think how much he benefitted from playing behind a loaded defense with teamates like Sedrick Ellis.

If Flacco is available with the first 2nd round pick, you have to take him. He would be best player available.

Still have to extend Urlacher and Harris.

Bear Down

Glad Lance is back, but we could have used that money to sign Jake Scott or Jacob Bell at G, and gotten by with Jamar Williams or Mike Okwo. But having 2 Pro Bowl linebackers is not a bad thing.

As far as the draft strategy goes, I think Mendenhall would be a great pick at 14, but right now we have a group of blockers in front of him that couldn't stop a charging girl scout. Kreutz is the only one who deserves his job the way they played. Tait did fairly well considering he was on a gimpy leg for half the year, but beyond that, we were terrible up front. I think we should either draft an OT at 14 (maybe Clady will still be there), or trade back for an extra pick (3rd round, or 2nd if we can get it) to the 20-22 range, and draft Chris Williams from Vandy. Otah is a massive player, but I wonder about his lack of mobility (5.4 in the 40 at the Combine) and would much rather move Tait to the right side, and get a LT than to pay 1st round money to a RT. Then you go RB, WR, and OG in the other 3 picks in the first three rounds. Maybe Dallas would give up their 22nd and 60th to get the 14th pick. Value-wise, they are right about even. We could pull it off, and if we don't get Williams, we can always go after Felix Jones or Johnathan Stewart at 22. Or one of the WRs.

Take an O-Lineman first. Bear football is the running game. This is a no-brainer. Julius Jones would be an ok player to sign IF the Bears solidify their line. They aren't gonna get an Adrian Peterson. I sure hope everyone has gotten over trying Benson as an "A" back. Then, there are always those guys who suprise in the later rounds. I'm glad Briggs is back also. Olin Kruetz is so old he still owes money to St. Peter...jk..Go Bears
