DT Walker next to go

| 3 Comments | No TrackBacks

Defensive tackle Darwin Walker’s $5.2 million roster bonus was far too much for the team to consider paying.

Thus, the veteran was released on Monday in another of the team’s moves. Walker battled knee, elbow and wrist injuries for most of the season after being acquired at the start of training camp from the Buffalo Bills for a fifth-round pick.

He was needed because the team was forced to cut ties with Tank Johnson. Fortunately, another defensive tackle stepped forward in Anthony Adams. He played well until surgery on his arm shut him down in December. Adams is under contract through 2010.

More details soon.

Next players to bring their playbooks to Coach Smith's office are:

Adam Archuleta
Ricky Manning Jr.
Ruben Brown
John Gilmore
Terrence Metcalf
Brian Griese

Sweet. Add $6,350,000 to the cap.

This morning our cap was $22,490,133. Now it's $32,344,693. A good day's work if you ask me. ;)

This might mean tagging Berrian or a possible long term deal for Briggs. One or the other. The one thing to remember is that even though the Bears have $32 million in cap space, it won't mean they'll be inclined to give out huge sums of actual dollars in signing bonus to both of those guys. And to assume that the Bears can go after anyone and everyone who is a FA, that won't happen necessarily.
