Updating Ruben Brown

The nine-time Pro Bowl left guard has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Brown has battled a shoulder injury all season, and the decision was finally made to place him on IR and turn the job over to Terrence Metcalf, who has been the heir apparent for some time.

Taking Brown's place on the 53-man roster is guard/center Anthony Oakley.

Oakley was on the 53 all last season but did not participate in a game. This opens up a spot on the practice squad.

This is the wave of the future for the Bears, especially their ancient, free agent laden offense. They are so old on offense, these guys like Brown are starting to breakdown and their are very few young guys who are high draft picks on the roster that could replace the 30 something crowd. Metcalf is certainly not young at age 29, and he has only been a career backup. The only young guy on this offense who is ready to replace an old guy as a starter is Olsen. This team could be scrambling next year to find four or five new starters on offense alone. And if I am not mistaken, the Bears have very little salary cap space? Get ready for some extremely lean years.
