Bears looking at Chargers' Roach

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The Sun-Times has learned Tuesday morning that the Bears are attempting to sign former Northwestern linebacker Nick Roach off the practice squad of the San Diego Chargers to fill their roster.

An opening was created when cornerback Ade Jimoh was lost for the season with a broken collarbone Sunday at Seattle, and he will be placed on injured reserve.

Roach signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent. He fits the mold of undersized linebackers the Bears like at just over 6-0 and 234 pounds. The Bears had a pre-draft meeting with Roach.

Safety Leonard Peters and cornerback Greg Fassitt were in-house candidates to be promoted. General manager Jerry Angelo is looking elsewhere, at least initially.

More news on this as it becomes available.
