Bears hopeful Maynard will be OK

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The last thing the Bears want to do before Sunday's game is go out on the street to find a punter. Brad Maynard is questionable for Sunday's game vs. Kansas City with a groin muscle pull. It cropped up late in the week -- likely during Friday's practice -- and a final determination on Maynard's status will be made at Saturday's walk-through.

A league source indicated Friday night that Maynard was expected to be OK, but questionable means there is a 50/50 chance he will play.

K Robbie Gould could get the team through an emergency situation, but the team does not want to enter a game without a proven punter.

Joel Stelly, who spent time with the team over the last two summers, was too inconsistent during training camp to probably be considered. One option could be veteran Dirk Johnson, who was released earlier this month by Philadelphia. Johnson was with the Eagles when special teams coordinator Dave Toub was working there. Chances are, though, it will not come to that.
