Our embattled governor loves evoking figures from history when talking about his current plight.
Rod Blagojevich said he was thinking of Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr. when the FBI came knocking on his door.
Others might believe Boss Tweed, Huey Long or even Billy the Kid might be more appropriate.
You make the call.
Who's the best figure from history to compare our governor with?
This blog brought to you by the Sun-Times editorial board (click on names to read bios):
Clear enough to everyone, CORRUPTION IS TAKING THE TOLL MORE AND MORE.
Anyway, I just want to share, my input on this Gov Blagojevich scenario;
I think that the governor should and must try to take down with him (he is going down alright ) ,...try to take down with him AS MANY AS HE POSSIBLY CAN. Number of his suposely 'friends' are giving him the back and some even stabbing-back at him.
So, is war to the end ,...so logic dictates that he should uncovered all those individuals ( some of them already in Washington in the new administration) name them, so the public will know them for real,...EVEN IF IN THE PROCESS, PRES OBAMA FALLS IN THE MIX TOO,...AFTER ALL HE IS PRODUCT OF THE SAME CHICAGO-CORRUPTED POLILTICAL ATMOSPHERE,...so, should Obama is one of the ones to go down ,...that will not take me for surprise at all !,....AND NOBODY, ABSOLUTELY NOBODY !, SHOULD BE SURPRISED FOR THAT, NEITHER.
Well, that is all I have to say about this one issue on Gov Blagojevich,
Thanks , for reading.
Respectfully,

Ghandi, MLK, Mandela??? No..... I would say more like Dr Evil from Austin Powers, or Mr Burns from the Simpsons, or Potter in "It's a Wonderful Life". Our governor is completely delusional and it's time for the senate in Illinois to impeach this guy and put an end to the Blago Freak Show. The whole Blago thing has made for some great drama, I've been entertained, but now it's time to get him out of there and get someone who can actually help our state.
We've got Ryan in a cell, let's get a cell for Blago, and then while we're at it go after Stroger next.....
Regarding our so called Governor, I am sick of him making a mockery of IL. I feel embarassed every time I here an out of state news story of Blago. I know that is my own personal feeling and I probably shouldn't feel that way, but I can't help it. Rod is not helping the citizens of IL WHATSOEVER!!! If he really had our best interests at heart, and this includes all senators that are questioning the impeachment process, Blago would have resigned. We are in economic hard times and the last thing we need is for more of our hard earned money going into the blackhole of his trial. Don't be fooled people... that is exactly where it is going!
And another thing, Hendon talks about how he can't turn his back on the Governor after he and others supported all the programs that are now being brought to the table. I'm not saying that those programs weren't a good idea. What I am saying is... Hendon and other senators, don't you think you were being used and lied too??? You're not being a hypocrite if you didn't know the truth, or did you? Hmmm, interesting.
And it's been said, by Hendon, that the blacks are for Blagojevich. Hello people, what about that stunt when Burris was made Senator. Don't believe for a second that our beloved Blago wanted Burris as senator. He used him (with Burris' consent) to win the blacks sympathy. And now Blago is talking about Oprah??? Give me a break!
Needless to say, I have no sympathy for Blagojevich. No one forced him to abuse his power. No one forced him to be an arrogant idiot. His free will! I want him out of office immediately. I don't want him back, even if the future criminal trial finds him innocent. His stunt to go on a media frenzy has only deepened my disgust for him. I'm not going to be fooled into feeling sympathy for him - neither should you!
Thanks for your time and allowing me to vent.
If Blago goes vegetarian he can be on a famous vegetarian list with Gandhi. That would be the only quality they would have in common.
This guy is a gangster! If he were anything like any of these great men he would have been serving his constituents first hand by providing soup kitchens, and not cutting much needed programs like "Ceasefire"...Evil begets evil...I would love to hear all the feds tapes thou, because I believe he was talking dirty business with more than half the politicians pointing fingers at him...
Barbara Walters pretty much summed up how we all feel about this whole farce when she asked Blago point blank, to put up or shut up. He shut up and spun tales instead. No more need be said.
What's with that, Steve? Didn't any of your teachers (throughout your academic years) utilize historical figures important to their times when lecturing? There simply is too much fault-finding flurrying around. What amuses me is while Governor Blagojevich is taking a break from being battered to death, who will be the next fish to fry? We are a society that is fast becoming persecutorial for want of other activities in which to indulge. I do not think anyone can draw on a historical figure to compare with this Governor, and based on the negative clamor, I doubt there would be any interest in the research to come up with one. He apparently is an avid reader who remembers and values what he reads and he should not be attacked for that. As a matter of fact, his readings have probably been the support base upholding his confidence throughout this ordeal.
I compare this guy to Groucho Marx. What can I say? The man was funny. But why is everyone coming down on this guy. If you recall the opening remarks of his impeachment hearing, one of the things that were said was that he misused the trust of the people of the State of Illinois. This should also apply to everybody in the State Senate and House. Sure, Blago was helping himself but at the same time looking out for the middle-class and poor families of this State.
Remember the saying - You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. This is something that every political figure is known to do. Why go after only one guy? Why not all of them?
Now that the Governor has been impeached, I would like to see the rest of the political phonies impeached as well. I hope Blago will open his mouth as bring down all the corrupt poiticians that need to replaced.
People should open their eyes before voting someone into office. Otherwise, they'll end up in the poor house because their taxes went up. It's time to get good people to run for office. Will anybody please stand-up and fight for the rights of our citizens.
