Who should pick up the awards for Heath?

If Heath Ledger posthumously wins an Academy Award for his brilliant portrayal of the Joker in "The Dark Knight," who should climb up on stage and accept the award for him?

Sun-Times columnist Bill Zwecker reports that Heath's dad, Kim, and the rest of the Ledger family would like to do the honors.

To normal people -- people like you and me -- that might sound like a powerfully poignant moment. Some of us might have to push back tears as Heath's old man holds the Oscar high and says something short and sweet about his beloved son.

But wait. What are we thinking? We're just a bunch of nobodys thinking like nobodys.

Who really cares about fathers and sons and families and love -- you can find that stuff in your own home, if you're lucky.

What America really needs -- can't get enough -- is celebrities.

Fortunately, some unnamed Hollywood honcho set Zwecker straight:

"Let's face it, don't you think the public would rather see Christian Bale up there on stage -- or even Chris Nolan -- rather than Heath's dad, who nobody knows?"

The Hollywood honcho phrased that as a question, dear readers.

Care to post a reply to him?

did you by any chance happen to ponder who Heath would want to be up
there accepting his recognition and rewards....?

History tells us the Heath won't win. So this an academic argument.

I say send Matilda up there to get it!
How cute would that be>

I think Michelle should accept it, considering she is also an actress, was his wife and the mother of his child.

That's ridiculous...celebs are way to over rated and i agree with everready, i'm sure Heath would want his family up there accepting on his behalf. I mean after all they're the ones still mourning over Heath, not some random hot celebrity.

It should be Michelle Williams (the mother of Ledger's child).

His family for sure, probably his father, since the photos of him going in or out of this or that funeral home, retrieving his son's belongings, asking the press for privacy and the like were widespread in the American and Australian press. He can take Matilda up there in his arms--that would be sweet, especially since she looks just like Heath (even Michelle said so).

Send Jack Nicholson!
Seriously though, it should be his wife and daughter.

Michelle Williams wasn't his wife nor were they together at the time of his death. I think the honor should belong to his family, the people who were in his life 'til the end.

His family? Gimme a break! The US is more concerned about who Lindsay Lohan is dating this month and whether or not Paris Hilton was wearing her panties last night than about silly things like family values, morality, and common sense. I say let's have Oprah and Obama pick up the award for Mr. Ledger (brilliant the way he did the Joker. Nicholson was pwned!). Maybe while they're up there they can wed some homosexual couples and then give more money away to Wall Street CEOs who have bankrupted hundreds of thousands of families.

Someone connected to the picture (co-star, director, producer) should get it. I mean, it just seems like good taste to me.

Let another drug addict pick it up for him. You know, one who might overdose as he did, in a few days, a week, a month, or longer.
It would give him or her something to remember for the remainder of their short lives.

I agree his family...his dauther never really knew him, his wife is dating someone else...his family is and will always be in mouring. REMEMBER FAMILY FIRST!!!!!!!!!!
