Where was Jerry Weller on the bailout vote?

| | Comments (12) | TrackBacks (0)

Illinois Republican Congressman Jerry Weller made news this week for what he didn't do.
He was the only one of 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives to miss the vote on the $700 billion bailout, arguably the most important vote of the year.
His spokesman cited "a commitment to his family" as the reason. But on a vote this important, Weller should have put his country first.
It seems the soon-to-retire congressman is slacking off. He has missed 284 other votes this session.
He's still an elected official and has a responsibility to serve his Will and Grundy County constituents until the end of his term.
We expect he won't miss the next vote.

Absolutely inexcusable !!

I may not know where Jerry Weller was on Monday for the bailout vote, but I do know where he was on Tuesday. He was at Westfield Louis Joliet Mall Tuesday afternoon with his wife and child. Maybe his wife needed a new outfit.

Jerry Weller, what a piece of work. Typical politican, takes a salary but does not work. What else is new! Isn't he gone soon, who needs him !!!! Problem is his replacement is usually worse!

As a constituent who lives in Weller's district, I'd like my money back. That would be your salary, Mr. Weller.

It's crap like this that makes me cheer for Ron Paul. And yes, his "told you so" might be the biggest one ever.

i'l bet he was in Guatemala --read the articles in the Chicago Reader, detailing his shenanigans with his wife (the daughter of the Guatemalan president), his American taxpayer aid to Guatemala, and his shady land dealings in Guatemala. Look out Jerry, the Feds gots some questions for you!

That is why I voting third party. I am ready for a real change, we keep voting for the same people,it is just not working.

Thats exactly what I am doing, voting third party. I have worked for both parties and my opinion is that all these people think about is themselves. They don't think about our country or the people.

Any one who votes for an incumbent in November must be suffering from the voter version of battered wife syndrome. Yeah everyone in congress is a bum except my guy. Vote them all out. And the ones we vote in get just one term!

Takes his salary and does not work. Aren't you referring to Obama? Nah, he also takes large amounts of money from Countrywide, Fannie Mae, Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs.

At least Manzullo comes across well in the this video about the Fannie Mae caused international financial crisis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MGT_cSi7Rs&feature=related.

This one is even better

Note the Preamble to the Constitution, which all Americans are supposed to agree with if they live within its sovereignty:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union,

(1) establish Justice,
(2) insure domestic Tranquility,
(3) provide for the common defence,
(4) promote the general Welfare,
(5) and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves
(6) AND our Posterity,

do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Question: Because of the acts of some 70 members of congress, subprime mortgages were given to 7 million households that couldn’t afford them, costing the other 97 million households $1.8 trillion dollars all together or about $17,000 each. If a congressman, no matter what his constituency, carries out acts that cover up or aid a process that is an ‘irreparable act of harm to the nation’, such as those that allowed Fannie May to sell much for nothing, has he violated any of the six covenants of the Preamble to the point that he has committed treason?
