These days the French media are obsessed with their president's love life. President Nicolas Sarkozy, who divorced his wife of 11 years in October, is now dating an ex-model turned pop singer, Carla Bruni.
The media are salivating and they photographed them vacationing in Egypt. Ooh la la!
It certainly makes for scintillating headlines. But c'est la vie. That's life.
The French should spend more time focusing on issues that matter, like their struggling economy, than on the love life of their leader.

Yes indeed the French press is salivating over Sarkozy's infatuation with the Italian, Carla Bruni, just as the Americam media salivates over the most prurient suggestions about Hillary Clinton and the actual facts of President Bill's lustful entanglements. The latest phenomenon in this hormonal thing is that many of the dopes in the American media, male and female, appear to be infatuated with Barack Obama, perceived as some exotic reincarnation of JFK and MLK. The white woman who gave birth to Barack is written out of the narrative as is the still-living white grandmother who raised him. Not glamorous enough, I suppose. The media in America and elsewhere is, with rare exceptions, colonised by a crowd of pretentious airheads who have lost the run of themselves. As China steadily grows to be the world's mega-economy, the Chinese must be laughing at Western foolishness.
