Anyone dreaming of a white Christmas will certainly have their dreams come true if they're looking through the display windows of Macy's on State Street. Not one black person is displayed among the mannequins or dolls on State or Randolph. People of color in general are largely absent. As long as it's all fantasy, the window designer could have stretched a bit and conjured a world that includes a vast majority of the Chicago population.

My family and I did go and check out the Macy's window and it does have a very white christmas indeed. I wonder do people think that individuals of color don't celebrate christmas? Did you know the Gentleman that runs Macy's is Black, not the nicest guy in the world to encounter as a server, actually a little rude. But what can you say about Macy's? Half the original luxury we were accustomed to with Marshall Fields. Remeber the Fields, I think they built a museum in Chicago among other things. Don't waste your time in Macy's.
I can give Chicago a pass on this one. It's a relatively minor offense. It's interesting that the owner of the store is black and most of those who have complained are white. Some minorities get it in their heads that the only customers they need to please are white ones. Just look at the cab drivers. They ignore most non-white patrons, but the second they see a white man it turns into a drag race between cabs who want to pick him up first.
Why don't you get mad at the authors and illustrators of these fairy tales for originally creating all white fantasies?? Of course if Macy's did make a diverse Snow White or Nutcracker, you would be one of the first to complain about them "not sticking to the real tradition of the fairy tale" and trying to change it to bring attention and ultimately money to Macy's.
It really funny how we as people of color complain about not being respected or represented by White or Arab business, but we are still giving them our hard earned dollars, but then again thats why we as race havent solved our problems,we focus on minute things instead on focusing on the major issues.
Where in the world do you have the idea that the Store Manager is a Black Male! The last time I looked it was a Woman. The Divsion is run by two Men and A Woman and the entire corporation is run by a Man. Macy's State Street Store has nicest toy department in years.
Remember to tell your family and friends to shop elsewhere. Sales revenue at the Macy's on State Street is WAY down. The boycott is working! When this Macy's is killed off, we have an opportunity for a new buyer to come in and restore the Marshall Field's name, traditions, and the Marshall Field's way of doing business. We will NEVER shop at Macy's.
