Other Awards: September 2008 Archives
Run-D.M.C. could ''Walk This Way'' into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The 1980s rap act, along with Metallica and the Stooges, are among the nine nominees for next year's hall of fame class, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced today.
The other nominees are guitarist Jeff Beck, singer Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, War, Bobby Womack, and disco and R&B group Chic.
Alison Krauss and Robert Plant's album ''Raising Sand'' was a big winner at the Americana Honors & Awards.
''Raising Sand'' won album of the year, and Krauss and Plant were named duo of the year last night at the Ryman Auditorium.
Entertainment Weekly's PopWatch blog has an astute commentary today about this year's BET Hip-Hop Awards -- and the fact that all the nominees are male. The writer finds this "truly a sad testament to the current (and glaring) lack of women in hip-hop. Even so, would it have killed the network to at least nominate British soul/rap siren Estelle for Best U.K. Hip-Hop Act? After all, she raps, she's from the U.K., and her outstanding 2008 U.S. debut CD, Shine, is the finest offering from a female rapper since Lauryn Hill's 1998 classic, 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.' And what about M.I.A.? Hello, 'Paper Planes' is the jam!"
ATLANTA -- Lil Wayne will have another chance to show why he is the ''Best Rapper Alive.''
Wayne received 12 nominations for the third annual BET Hip-Hop Awards, which airs on Oct. 23. The rapper scored the year's best-selling album sales debut this month, with sales of 1 million copies of his new CD, ''Tha Carter III.''
