You could throw your own Oscar night party, spending hours baking little Oscar-shaped cookies and whatever is Javier Bardem's favorite snack. Or you could actually enjoy yourself and hit the Oscar Night America party at the Gene Siskel Film Center.
There are several of these "officially sanctioned" parties around the country, and this is Chi-town's. Guests get a dinner buffet from Petterino's (including champagne, wine and beer), an auction of movierific stuff and an HD feed of the big ceremony — whatever that might be this year, given the still lingering writers strike. Organizers say, though, "No matter what happens, there will be a party!"
Dress is "business attire or awards glam."
The hootenanny starts at 6 p.m. Feb. 24 (the telecast starts at 7 p.m.) and lasts to midnight at the fim center, 164 N. State. Tickets are $150-$1,500. For information, call (312) 846-2072.
