BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — "No Country for Old Men" and "There Will Be Blood" led with eight Academy Awards nominations each this morning, among them best picture and acting honors for Daniel Day-Lewis and Javier Bardem — but whether any actors would show up was in doubt because of the writers strike.

The nominees for best actor are George Clooney for "Michael Clayton," Daniel Day-Lewis for "There Will Be Blood," Johnny Depp for "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," Viggo Mortensen for "Eastern Promises" and Tommy Lee Jones for "In the Valley of Elah."

Best-actress nominees included Cate Blanchett, "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"; Julie Christie, "Away From Her"; Marion Cotillard, "La Vie En Rose"; Laura Linney, "The Savages"; and Ellen Page, "Juno."

The nominees for best supporting actress were: Blanchett, "I'm Not There"; Ruby Dee, "American Gangster"; Saoirse Ronan, "Atonement"; Amy Ryan, "Gone Baby Gone"; and Tilda Swinton, "Michael Clayton."
