Dennis Doty, producer of the arrivals show that airs just before the Academy Awards ceremony, called the 76-year-old Philbin ‘‘the perfect guy to serve as host.’’
‘‘He knows everyone, and everyone loves Regis,’’ Doty said in a statement.
The 80th Academy Awards will be presented Feb. 24 on ABC.
