Bob Odenkirk brings the funny in Chicago

"Breaking Bad" star, brief Second City mainstage player (he created the motivational speaker Matt Foley for Chris Farley) and Naperville native Bob Odenkirk stopped by Energy BBDO ad agency Thursday to take part in a so-called "creative salon." The agency has hosted several. Here are some highlights from Bob's hourlong talk, which was accompanied by rudimentary visuals that illustrated different aspects of his career and followed by a Q&A session:

On improv: "I do improv, but I'm not a huge fan of it."

On creating the original "Super Fans" sketch for SNL: "I did write 'Super Fans.' But believe me, I didn't think we needed to write 30 of them."

On whether the rumors of a possible "Breaking Bad" spin-off featuring his character, the sleazy lawyer Saul Goodman, had much validity: "Yeah, yeah, absolutely. But don't put it on the Internet. I certainly don't count on it; it's showbiz."

Some Odenkirk-penned scripts that never got made: "Mr. Badd," "Kung-Fu Superpimp," "Disco Sucks," "The F---Up."

Bob announced that he and his former "Mr. Show" co-star David Cross are publishing a bunch of scripts they wrote. The book will include storyboards and one of the scripts might be made into a Claymation feature.

He's also developing a new sketch show with the Birthday Boys (www.thebirthdayboys.com) for IFC.

Bob seemed especially proud of his uncredited work on "lost" footage of Abraham Lincoln, seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgqZhjQWJ1A

He'll appear Friday with Michael McCarthy at DePaul University. The public is welcome. (http://mycti.cti.depaul.edu/news/calendar.asp?id=5427)
